Federal Tax Credits - In addition to utility rebates for photovoltaic systems, the federal government is providing a 30% Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for solar electric and solar water heating systems for residential applications. Xcel Energy Rebates: The mandated rebate for IOUs in Colorado is $2.00 a watt. Xcel Energy is offering $.85 on top of this for the "Renewable Energy Credit (REC)" (as adjusted by the PV Watts program). The REC price does decrease and is only for photovoltaic systems. In response to apparent demand for solar rebates, Springs Utilities has decided to increase the 2006 budget by $118,000 . Simon Baker, with Colorado Springs Utility, said "We are please to offer this additional budget to our customers. Interested customers are encouraged to submit reservation requests in order to secure their place in the funding queue. The deadline for submitting reservation requests for 2006 funding is September 1, 2006."
