Bringing Solar Energy to Colorado

On-Line Training

The study guides for the CoSEIA PV and Solar Thermal Certification exams can now be accessed either as a .doc or .pdf file for the PV exam or as a .DOC or .PDF file for the Solar Thermal exam.  The purpose of these study guides is to outline the possible subjects that will be covered by the exams. CoSEIA will continue to update these study guides as the exams evolves. Please note that you need to have up-to-date CPR and First Aid cards before you are allowed to sit for either certification exam. If you have any comments or recommendations for the study guides, especially resources from the internet, please send them to Jon.Klima@gmail.com. Thank you, the CoSEIA Board.

Presently, our only PV material is a link to John Wiles' document entitled Photovoltaic Power Systems And the 2005 National Electrical Code: Suggested Practices, http://www.nmsu.edu/%7Etdi/Photovoltaics/Codes-Stds/PVnecSugPract.html, and an outline of this document generated by Troy Wanek. The Wiles "Suggested Practices" document is available at no charge from the above link (a 5 MB PDF file, 145 pages) and hard copies are available from the CoSEIA office for $20 to cover copying and mailing costs. Troy Wanek's outline of the Wiles document can be seen by clicking here (a 77 KB PDF file, 15 pages).

The information shown below outlines the first part of an on-line training course series. This series is starting with controls training for solar thermal installers. We hope to eventually expand the training to include additional solar thermal and PV material.

The content of the "control" series is taken from The Solar Controls Book© by Jon Klima, and has been updated to reflect today's solar controls technology. The book consists of three sections: Basic Electrical Principles for the Solar Installer, Differential Controls for Domestic Hot Water Systems, and Interfaces & Advanced Control Systems. The material includes exercises at the end of each module. To obtain CoSEIA continuing education credit for this training you will need to complete the exercises and e-mail your answers for review and comments to Jon.Klima@gmail.com. Each section will contain several progress quizzes and a comprehensive final test.

Below is a listing of the three sections of The Solar Controls Book©. By clicking on the Introduction Title link you may read the introduction and examine the table of contents of each of the book's sections, then decide whether you would like to purchase and study the material.
